Take the "What's Next" Poll

About mid January I put in a "What's Next" feature on the left sidebar of the blog. I thought it would be fun - I like to know what's coming next. It's helped me to be more organized about what I'm writing too.

But it has its downsides. It makes me feel like I have to stick to the schedule and that I shouldn't post something out of turn. It also requires planning ahead and I don't always want to do that.

I wanted to keep it, then to take it down, but now I'm feeling indifferent about it. So I ask you, readers and friends: should I continue to feature "What's Next" on Brooklynguy's blog, or let it swirl down the drain like so much plonky Pinot Grigio?

Please voice your opinion in the poll on the sidebar by the end of Tuesday February 19th, assuming that you care about such trivialities.

I say keep it, Neil. Just don't feel so tied to it that you can't post things out of turn. It's essentially just a chalkboard, after all. I do think it gets people interested in coming back for more.

If it stresses you out, ditch it. I like to plan ahead, but so frequently take a detour that it would be useless. Seems to me that you like to go with the moment, so the sidebar may not work. I am, however, very interested in your upcoming 2005 Cru Beaujolais piece...

Um, I hadn't noticed it. But now that I see it I like it.

hey jcj - glad it works for you, and thanks for stopping by.

hi david - that's exactly what i'm thinking. nothing is set in stone. i can veer off course regardless of what i said i would write about next. as always, your comments are much appreciated.

you know joe, i hear you, but i think i can find a way to keep it, yet not be stressed by it. i would have to be less constrained by it, is all. i can't be tied down joe. i'm a free spirit. read more about this on thursday the 22nd.

hey anon - it is pretty trivial in the end, isn't it. are you someone i know who forgot to include their name?

Neil, I'm with the 215 crime dog here. Don't let it dictate content if you don't want it to.

Truth be told, I noticed the feature but I'm too focused on what is and what was on your blog to read what's next. There's but so much blog reading I can do at work, and I'm trying to limit my blog reading at home to make more time for books. I say this as I type from my desk, at home.

Hey Neil-

I like it, but agree you shouldn't feel so tied to it! I never expect your "what's next" to actually come up in any kind of order and it keeps me checking back when I've noted something I am really interested in (not to say I'm not interested in everything!)is coming up in the future...like the local lamb piece, I saw it in your sidebar, and kept checking back for it!

hey megan - that's good to know, thanks. maybe that would be a good trick - to list something coming soon that's really exciting, and to never really get around to posting it.
