Brooklynguy is a Finalist in the 2008 American Wine Blog Awards !

Tom Wark at Fermentation hosts the 2008 American Wine Blog Awards. I, Brooklynguy am nominated for an award as Best Wine Review Blog!

This is a great honor for me. It is bloggers and readers - you, who selected this blog to be nominated, and that means a lot to me - I sincerely thank you for it.

I think Vegas has the betting line right now at about 9 to 1 on me to win. Why such a long shot? Look who else is nominated - Bigger Than Your Head, 750 ML, and Good Wine Under $20, all great blogs with serious followings. And I've never been one to win a popularity contest. But like Ellen Page and Hal Holbrook did at the Oscars this year, I'm going to put on my best outfit and enjoy my strut down the red carpet, my time mingling with the stars. And who knows, maybe the big shots will split the vote and I'll pull off an upset, like Tilda Swinton did as Best Supporting Actress.

Thanks again for your participation in this blog, and for nominating me. Click here to vote.

Okay...back to wine. Scroll down for this week's Friday Night Bubbles.

That vote was an easy decision. Kind of like the one in November will be.

Congratulations! This is well deserved.

Deserved it is.
I note that many long-standing American wine blogs are not nominated. Craig's is notably missing. This event works as if there was a rule I had missed: trendy blogs are preferred.
Happily the vote is not restricted to US citizens!

thanks for the kind words y'all. and estelle - i also noticed a few blogs that i think are quite trendy and that get VERY high readership, and are not nominated in any category. for example, in addition to wine camp, what about Alice Feiring's blog or Rockss and Fruit? I have to imagine that some sort of political something or other played into those decisions. who knows...i'm not sure i agree with your characterization of the nominees as trendy. more on this another time.

Congrats.

This wine blog awards thing (and for that matter Fermentation as a site) is a great way to discover the sheer depth and variety of wine blogs out there. Something for everyone.

With all due respect to the other two nominees, the Best Wine Review category really comes down to you and Good wine under 20. For fear of someone visiting me to inflict bodily harm, or of my lovely SF apartment inexplicably catching fire - I'm voting for the guy from Brooklyn!

Win or lose, I'm happy for ya. Though your chances are really pretty good. 3-2 odds at the Mirage, I hear....

Good Luck man . . .I voted. Though I am not an awards guy. Haven't watched the Oscars in fifteen years. Just the AVN awards now that they are on Showtime....:)
