Guess That Bottle

Time for something new here at Brooklynguy's place. Something silly, but hopefully fun. Each week I'm going to post chopped up pictures of two wine labels and you can play Guess That Bottle ®. Test your wine label memory! Forget about vintages, I'm talking about producers, and where possible, specific wines.

Write your guesses in the comment section. I'm still figuring out how to award a prize to the person who accumulates the most correct guesses. But does every game have to have a winner? Can't you do anything just for the joy of doing it? What's wrong with you, anyway?

Trust me - this is definitely a waste of your time. Have some time to kill? Guess That Bottle is the game for you! Now let's get to it, the inaugural edition of Guess That Bottle.

Because I'm essentially a decent person, bottle #1 shouldn't be too difficult:

Bottle #2:

Bottles will be unveiled in about 24 hours.

1. One or the other or Breton's Bourgueils
2. Pascal Cotat Sancerre "Les Monts Damnés"

1. Domaine Le Bordel, 1er Cru La Moindre Idée?

2. Oh, easy, that's obviously the Cotat "Les Monts Damnés". McDuff, you CLEARLY cheated though - tell me you didn't look at the name of Neil's JPEG file.

Fun! Great idea! (Decanter Magazine does a similar thing every month but they give the answer at the end of each edition).

What David said, only I'm not confident in the precision -- couldn't Breton be Chinon and Cotat be Grande Côte, or Francois?

apparently this game was a bit easier than I had planned. that might be due to the fact that by simply scrolling over the photos, the names of the photos are visible, ingeniously coded with the producer's name. also because i clearly underestimated you all.

next time no such hints will be available via scrolling. and the game itself will be so deviously difficult, so impossibly challenging that you really should be forced to sign a disclaimer before playing.

Dee-T,
I'm no cheat, bubba. Didn't even notice the JPEG file names until I came back today and read your comment. Mr. BG just happened to pick two pretty distinctive labels.

Didn't notice -- honest. So was it Bourgueil and Pascal?

Yes, D mc D got it right, and merely 7 minutes and 21 seconds after i posted the pix. It was in fact a Bouurgueil and it was Pascal, not Francis. How he knew...who knows. Next time I'll enable comment moderation so everyone who wants to can guess without seeing other folks' guesses in earlier comments. And next time it will be more difficult. And McD - deetrane was joking, as you surely know.

hey Brooklynguy, reading your blog is NEVER a waste of time. Thought of you when we disgorged 1979 Ca' del Bosco à la volée in Franciacorta.

Of course I knew, lad. I thought about joking back even harder but thought better of it.
