Comment Moderation
Folks, I'm sorry to have to do it, and annoyed also, but I'm tired of deleting unwanted comments advertising flower shops in Pakistan, Japanese escort services, and various other detritus. So I'm going to experiment with comment moderation.
I know it's annoying to have to wait to see your comment go up on the site, but at least this way I, not you, will be the person who has to see all the unwanted comments. If it doesn't work out, I'll go back to open comments. Let's see how it goes.

You mean I can't get Pakistani flower shop info here anymore?
Sad face.

But this is the first place people look for Japanese escort services.
As a person who works in the online industry, its clear that post-moderated are the coin of the realm.
You have three choices for dealing with comment-spam:
1) get an intern so you don't have to do all the deleting;
2) buy or get a free spam-filtering add-on (blogspot should have some options built-in - let me know if you need me to help you configure them);
3) trust that your faithful, knowledgeable and understanding core audience, myself and everyone else included, will know the difference between a legitimate comment and a bit of spam, and will ignore the spam long enough for you to get around to deleting it.
Post-moderated comments are a huge psychological discouragement to commenting. I don't have any idea why - but the data proves it overwhelmingly. Please don't do it.
But I was going to tell you about this great Rolex replica I just bought...
I have been moderating comments for as long as I've been blogging and don't see any problem with it. It requires me to check my email often, but it really isn't too hard. i also have someone else who has admin powers so I don't have to constantly monitor it.
it probably is a good idea
I agree with Deetrane, if for no other reason than it totally ruins any possibility of comic timing in the comment thread.
thanks for your feedback, and obviously i'd rather not moderate the comments. but this morning i rejected another Japanese escort comment, and i just don't want to give them the satisfaction of making on the air even for a minute. gimme a week like this and we'll re-assess.
Pakistani flowers, Japanese escorts, a couple bottles of red... sounds like a hell of a party. I know I can get the last delivered to Brooklyn, but I wonder about the first two.
