Wine for Later on, for my Mid-Life Crisis

You may have seen this already if you are rich and maybe having a mid-life crisis, or if you read Keith Levenberg's recent post on The Picky Eater. If you haven't yet, take a peek at his Top Ten Tackiest Wines of All Time, where the number 1 wine is something called Ghost Horse World.

Honestly, I've never seen anything like this before. Is it possible this is satire? Can Ghost Horse World be real? Turn the sound on when viewing, by the way. If this is real, and it probably is, I think it speaks to how desperate some of us become when we feel our youth, our potency slipping away. And when we have thousands of dollars to burn. Promise that you'll euthanize me if you EVER catch me drinking with Todd, or going downhill racing with Todd.

It is very very real and there was a gazillion page thread on the Parker Board about it a while ago.

Yep, it's sad but true.

The best line, about the insipid inscription on the Goldschlagger- wine's bottle:

"This text is best imagined read aloud in the spooky voice from Donovan’s “Atlantis, or as the lyrics of a hypothetical Rush song.”

There is an old saying: "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"; but wait... or is it "beauty is skin deep". For the price of any these 10 wines, the experience of drinking them please be better than what Eliot Spitzer spent on Kristen!

I wonder if the wine is any good. Good money is against it, but what if it were slipped into a blind tasting, what if it were actually good wine? who cares. i get pumped up every time i hear the into music...

Thank you for the link, I was wondering where all those new readers were coming from! Yes, Todd (or "The Todd" as he has been rechristened in tribute to his supreme tackiness) appears very serious about the project if his posts on the gazillion-page ebob thread are any indication. If it were a joke, it would be pitch-perfect, so does the fact that he's serious ruin it or make it even funnier? I'm not sure. But if I owned a winery in California the temptation to do something like this would be unbearable. You don't need to find too many suckers to laugh all the way to the bank.

I was with Todd at his his vineyard last Saturday. He was an incredibly gracious host (didn't pawn us off on someone else) and gave us about 75 minutes of tasting and eduaction. He poured 2 bottles of Ghost Horse, priced at $1,000 and $3,000 respectively. While both were extraordinary bottles of Cab, neither struck me me as being good enough to buy 1 bottle as opposed to 20 bottles of $50/bottle wine. However, I do not have money to burn. If so, I would probably buy a bottle or two.

Todd poured about 6-7 different wines that day and charged us nothing. By the way, we arrived without an appt while he was in the middle of a scheduled tour, and he let us join right in. While he does come off, via the website,as a bit over the top,he was hospitable and gracious in my experience.

I would describe Anderson's Conn Valley as a 'must' visit vineyard on any trip to Napa area.
